Invitation to Singer Memorial Exhibition (1946)

Exhibit held at WCMFA. Click on the MEDIA ITEMS below for more information

William H. Singer, Jr. died in 1943, when under the emotional strain of the Nazi occupation of Norway, he suffered a heart attack. In 1946 the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts held a Memorial Exhibition of the works of its founder. The exhibition was devoted to Singer’s paintings and pastels, and undoubtedly featured many scenes of the Norwegian landscape he loved to portray in his impressionistic style. His widow Anna was present for the exhibition and was an honored guest in her hometown of Hagerstown. It was on this visit that Anna proposed funding two additions to the Museum, which were completed in 1949.
